Safer Urban Environments
Client: VicRoads
Project Summary: Preparation of a Land Use Planning Guide to achieve greater road safety.
Key Issues: The need for land development, especially new residential subdivisions, to be safer for all road users.
Contact: Russell Symons
The Project:
Ratio prepared a brochure which covers all aspects of road safety relating to land use planning and development, with special emphasis on brand-new residential subdivisions.
The Challenge:
Urban designers and developers often receive conflicting and out-dated advice on the best way of achieving "safer urban environments". Much of the basic road safety research is inconclusive regarding issues such as road/street geometry, network connectivity and intersection treatment.
The Approach:
Research, stakeholder consultation, draft brochure text, graphics and design were prepared for VicRoads by Ratio Consultants and Hennessy Services. Checklists cover:
- Regional Planning
- Outline Development Plan / Local Structure Plan
- Subdivision Plan
- Arterial Transport Corridor Plan
- Commercial / Infill Development Plan
The Result:
The brochure has been endorsed by relevant stakeholder and regulatory authorities.
