There is always something happening at ratio: stay up to date with our project and team news here.
It is with great pleasure we celebrate the career of Russell Symons and reflect on his huge contribution to the practice and the industry over the past 28 years. Russell is retiring at the end of 2017.
Russell helped establish ratio: in 1989, in partnership with Jeff Wolinski, Alan Wyatt and Graeme Dickson. Russell and Jeff, in particular, guided the company transformation through the nineties and noughties.
Russell has formed and consolidated long-term professional relationships with some of our key clients, and worked on a wide range of strategic transport projects for VicRoads and numerous Councils, many parking strategies for Councils, traffic and parking advice for numerous Universities and private schools. Also, more recently, he’s worked on interesting and challenging projects such as the 2011 World Cycling Championships for UCI and the Epping Market project.
He guided our Quality, Safety and Environmental accreditation – a huge undertaking - and the major client pre-qualification opportunities which provides for ratio’s future.
Of Russell’s many achievements, one of the most notable and one of which he can be very proud, is the mentoring of the many Traffic Engineering and Transport Planning graduates and new staff. Russell delighted in taking them under his wing and developing them, and encouraging them to appreciate the multi-disciplinary philosophy of ratio:. Many have gone on to successful careers both within ratio: and beyond.
Russell has been a subtle yet strong leader, revered for his loyalty, calmness and wisdom.
On behalf of ratio: Associates and staff, past and present, we thank Russell for the invaluable contribution he has made during his career and wish him all the best in his retirement.
