Project Details
Ratio was appointed by Australian Super Developments Pty Ltd to prepare a traffic and parking assessment for the redevelopment of the Herald and Weekly Times site, on the corner of Flinders Street and Exhibition Street, Melbourne. The development involved retention of a substantial part of the existing heritage building along the Flinders Street and Exhibition Street edges of the site; this part of the development accommodates residential apartments and retail spaces. In addition, there is a new office tower. Ratio's assessment included the following area:
- Parking provision requirements;
- Parking layout;
- Truck loading facilities and access; and
- Traffic generation of the proposal
The Challenge:
The site is located on a very busy intersection in the Melbourne CBD, so construction and permanent vehicular access was difficult to arrange. The heritage-listed facade provides only narrow portals on Flinders Street for access for internal parking and truck loading areas.
The Approach:
We worked closely with the Architects (Bates Smart), and the City of Melbourne, applying established principles for traffic management planning.
The Result:
All Permits were issued; the building is now complete and operating successfully.
