Box Hill Hospital Redevelopment
Client: Eastern Health
Project Summary: Redevelopment of major public hospital, including new and relocated parking facilities.
Key Issues: Need to schedule construction activities in stages, so that all aspects of hospital operation could continue during redevelopment.
Contact: Russell Symons
Box Hill Hospital needed major upgrading, and expansion to meet growing community demands.
The critical first stage was to plan, design and construct a new 500-space multi-storey carpark for staff and visitor use, so that other at-grade parking areas could be used for new hospital buildings.
The new carpark required access via Spring Street, including a new signalised intersection on Arnold Street.
The Challenge:
As with all long established suburban hospitals, there is not enough on-site provision for staff and visitor parking and associated access traffic. Available parking must be managed carefully to ensure reasonable access, while minimizing overspill parking impacts on surrounding (residential) areas.
The Approach:
Ratio worked closely with Eastern Health, its architects and Whitehorse Council to establish a balanced outcome.
The Result:
The multi-storey carpark is complete and fully operational. Last stages of the redevelopment are proceeding.
